Because the timing and quality of sleep help maintain glowing skin and healthy hair.

We know that a good night's sleep is essential for maintaining our overall well-being, growth and healthy brain function.

A new study has revealed that Slovakia is the most "rested" country in Europe, with Finland and Bulgaria in second and third place.

Factors examined included data on maximum and minimum working hours, holiday leave entitlement, how many breaks workers are allowed each day and the proportion of the population sleeping for 7 or more hours each night.

At the end of the list appear Italy, the Netherlands and Greece, which are the three least "restful" countries in Europe, according to the study.

Both the time and quality of our sleep are essential not only for general health, but are important factors in maintaining beauty.

During sleep, our body goes into "repair" mode. According to dermatologists, our skin undergoes critical restoration processes. Growth hormone levels peak, facilitating cell regeneration and collagen production. This means that adequate sleep helps repair damaged skin cells, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

A study published in the journal Clinical and Experimental Dermatology found that participants who were adequately rested had better skin elasticity and moisture levels compared to those who were sleep deprived.

One of the most immediate consequences of insufficient sleep is the appearance of dark circles and puffiness under the eyes. This is due to increased blood flow and fluid retention in the sensitive skin around the eyes. By getting 7-9 hours of quality sleep every night, you can minimize these problems, leading to a brighter, more refreshed appearance.

TIP: Elevate your head with an extra pillow while you sleep to reduce swelling!

Lack of sleep can affect our hormones, increasing levels of cortisol – often referred to as the 'stress hormone'. Increased cortisol can lead to increased oil production, resulting in acne. On the other hand, adequate sleep helps to balance hormones, leading to clearer and healthier skin.

Sleep deprivation can lead to mood swings and low self-esteem, making it harder to feel beautiful. A good night's sleep can lift our mood and boost our confidence, contributing to an overall sense of well-being that radiates outward. When we feel good inside, it shows outside!

Sleep is also crucial for hair health. During sleep, our body focuses on repairing and regenerating hair follicles, promoting growth and shine. Poor sleep can lead to increased hair loss and dull hair.

To maximize the beauty benefits of sleep, we should create an environment conducive to rest

Limiting the time on the mobile phone before bed and turning off the TV are key factors in our rest. Blue light from screens can disrupt melatonin production. Try to turn off electronic devices at least an hour before bed. Invest in quality mattresses, pillows and sheets for a comfortable sleeping experience and keep the room dark and quiet.

By making sure you get enough rest each night, you'll be giving yourself many benefits, glowing skin, reduced puffiness, balanced hormones and improved mood.

Your skin will thank you and you'll wake up feeling like the best version of yourself!
